A family estate, this traditional vineyard is located on the terraces of the Lot valey.
This large estate originating from Gallo-Romaine era was partly destroyed during the Middle-Age however managed to survive until Philloxera attack in 1878. Some Auxerrois plants were nonetheless conserved by Edouard Serougne who during the nineteen-twenties fell in love with the estate owner and with this grape variety. During 1930 as the vineyard recovered a part of its prosperity he initited with the help of the few rare colleagues to be found the creation of the Cahors wines syndicat. The estate Lamartine was built over a former old growth oak forest and according to the tale is the place where the pretty Martine, a local girl used to have her rendez-vous hence the name Lamartine !
Edouard Serougne also a poet wrote some verses to relate this history :
"Pur, de bonne famille
D'Auxerrois et cépage de cru
Comme de la jolie fille
On désire sa vertu..."
